I first met Corey when he was 16 or 17 years old. He
was riding an Appaloosa stallion that he had trained and
placed top ten at the Appaloosa Nationals in OKC in reining.
I thought at the time that this young giant of a man (6'5")
was going to go a long way with his soft hands if he
pursued a life training horses.
When PT was a two year old I needed someone that could do
a good job with this youngster and get him going in the right
direction. I wanted a reining trainer that I could trust
not to blow the mind of a young colt; I had seen that happen so many times
with the 30 day wonder trainers. PT was very athletic and I knew
under the right trainer he would be able to handle the stress in
competing at that level.
I gave Corey a call and he came by and looked at PT and from
that day forward they have not been separated except for the
45 days PT was collected at the reproduction clinic. They have a bond
that many envy and most never find. When I was offered $25,000 for PT as a three yr old I had to

turn it down because of this bond, and
I have never regretted my decision.
In the deal I also got Corey's wife, Carla, who is not only an excellent
trainer with the youngsters but a best friend. She has taken my
young horses to many wins both in the ring at year end awards.
I feel I got the best "two for one" deal ever.
PT and Corey have so many wins that I couldn't begin to count. There
have also been some losses, but usually from judges that can see nothing
but "peanut rollers". Very seldom has PT been beaten in open halter, but
it does happen and we know that the next time we will beat some
Quarter Horse or Paint and leave their handler just shaking their
head wondering how a Morgan could have done that.
Wherever we
go PT has a following. Corey has won in halter, western, English, trail,
reining, judges choice, western riding and even parade on PT.
I will be forever grateful for this young couple that have made my life
easier and have put PT and his foals on the international map. Without
those big soft hands of Corey's I'm sure we would never have gotten
as far as we have.
